The eggs usually hatch out quite close together and then the family can all move away from the nest site. There are dangers around the nest site and the sooner they could move the family away from the exposed nest site the better. This offers a lot more protection than the exposed nest site.

Third Time’s a Charm

I achieved five lifers in Michoacán in 2019, four in 2020, three in 2021, and only two in 2022. And this one’s was definitely when a bird briefly took wing just to the left of our path, only to settle right back down to the ground. With this sighting, I have now seen four of Michoacán’s six members of the Nightjar family.

Cable Beach Pied Oystercatchers continue to hatch

Following on from the sad loss of our first Pied Oystercatcher chick of 2020 the other eggs are now also hatching. We moved back and sat on the sand and watched the Pied Oystercatcher family. As we sat observing the Pied Oystercatcher family the adult with the chicks moved down onto the sand below us and the other one stood guard.

Reflecting on a Year of Less Birding

Birding even close to home didn’t even appeal to me, as the extra movement added to the dry heaves (pregnancy is super fun, am I right ladies?).
