Best Bird of the Weekend (Fourth of January 2016)

I got a good dose of seaducks this weekend up at the mouth of Irondequoit Bay; the most interesting species amidst the mixed flocks was a lone Bufflehead hobnobbing with Common Goldeneyes. Twitching

For the past several years I have been taking advantage of our many National Wildlife Refuges (NWR) here in Northern California. This leads me to my third twitch for the celebrated Falcated Duck ( Anas falcata ) at Colusa National Wildlife Refuge in January of 2012. This was a no-brainer. I found it within 30 minutes.

My eBird 10th Anniversary

During the decade, I submitted 1,219 checklists and observed 555 bird species, all in the U.S. In other words, eBird is effectively a complete history of my birding experiences. After an initial period when all species are new, the lifers begin to follow a pattern. and Canada. I’ve submitted 448 such checklists.
