Carolina Wrens are directly influenced by climate change. Do I think they made the right decision? Absolutely!

Unlike Sanderlings, their legs were yellow, and they were distinctively a plover species. Not satisfied with a mere two species, I embarked on a later walk down the beach with my grandmother and mother (the dream birding team!). Now, thousands of miles away, I was looking at a member of the same species, a Wilson’s Plover !

In defense of county listing

The first, the much caricatured hard-nosed lister who stops at nothing to get just one more bird, and the second, the deep-patch birder who just wants to hang around the common species. Case in point, this past weekend I headed south to the sandhills to find a Western Tanager that had been visiting a feeder in Moore County.

Introduction to Winter Sparrows of South Florida

The southeast tip of the Florida peninsula is not well endowed with a wide variety of sparrows in winter like the rest of the southeastern United States. We are just too far south for any of the above mentioned species, but that is not to say that we do not get any sparrows at all.
