And Chilean Flamingos should be found, well, in Chile, as well as much of southwestern South America. So both birds are assumed by many to be escapees from a zoo or a private collection somewhere. American Flamingos do occur naturally in Mexico, but only on the Yucatán peninsula in the country’s extreme southwest.

Anyway, even this lower number puts China at rank 8 in the list of countries with the most bird species, surpassed only by Indonesia outside of the usual suspects in South America. I do not mind pandas much as long as they do not stand in front of interesting birds, blocking my view, so this was not really an obstacle.

A bird of lowland and foothill rainforest, the Yellow-throated Toucan can be seen in most parts of the Caribbean slope and from the Carara area south to Panama.
