Pasir Ris Park-Singapore

Our first destination for observing birds in Singapore during our three week visit in March was Pasir Ris Park. It would be a great location to visit if you only had a few hours in Singapore and wanted to go beyond the airport to go bird watching. On one occasion we saw a pair of Red Turtle Doves beside the fishing lake.

Willie Creek

Broome’s famous Cable Beach, named after the telegraph undersea cable that was laid in 1889 to enable communication with England via Singapore, stretches about 23 kilometres-14 miles. We didn’t see the crocodile, but there was a Flatback Turtle in the creek.

Another interesting bird we flushed up was a male Red Junglefowl , a bird that Mike saw in Singapore recently and even chose as his bird of the year. So the poor turtle got a bit of a shake around before I released him safely into a ditch. Next we drove to the local bird breeding centre.
