Lots of squirrels, chipmunks, deer, rabbits. Ocassional robins, sparrows, crows. the last part is raptor behavior but I can't imagine what kind of bird would be small enough to choose this space when there's 300 yds of chain link fence right there, and I've yet to see a dead squirrel, rabbit or chipmunk.

They took dogs to Australia, chickens across the Pacific, rabbits to England, horses to the New World, and then brought potatoes back. The first to do so was the humble House Sparrow, which was brought to help control caterpillars but soon reached such numbers it was the subject of control itself.

In these marshes lie sparrows of a sort that have never been reliable on the islands. Paul and I led our group down into the marsh where we quickly encountered many Nelson’s Sparrows, a single Saltmarsh Sparrow, and a great many individuals that we could not identify to either. “Heron high going right!

I’m now petting my rabbit Dougal, 6 more birds dead. So, should we tell people not to plant anything like snowy mountain ash that the above White-throated Sparrow is eating on its migration south? I just looked over at my husband–bam 5 birds dead. Never put up a bird house?

Then, to finish the week, we visited the famous, and not necessarily for all the right reasons, Malhuer Wildlife Refuge. The first part of the week, we parked the RV at a campground right on the water, of Dog Lake, 20 miles southwest of Lakeview, Oregon. I only ran across this one Clark’s Grebe mixed in with in the groups of Westerns.
