And I have protected and cared for other native plants that have turned up on their own, particularly granjenos , which have now begun to produce their first tasty red fruits. So I am attempting to respond, by creating new habitat.

The photographic quality ranges from very good to exceptional, and though the point of photographs in a book like this is to communicate information, I think the excellence of some of Loughlin’s photography suffers from the number of images packed into the book. I also think there are chapters where the photographs crowd out the text.

So, back in the 1980s, biologists looked into bird nesting behavior and seemingly showed that some birds put certain plants into their nests in order to reduce the parasite load they might otherwise suffer, especially in nesting sites that were repeatedly reused.
