Serendip Sanctuary is a 250 ha protected area that is near the You Yangs and the small town of Lara, Victoria. It is free to enter Serendip Sanctuary and as you drive or walk up the road into the parking area there are opportunities to see kangaroos and wallabies as you can see above. The sanctuary is open from 8am-4pm daily.

They can’t provide the same ecosystem value as natural forest and woodland but in places intensely modifed by people, hedges are vital sanctuaries for birds and other wildlife. Although more than one parrot and parakeet can forage in hedgerows, this long-tailed green bird is the most common. Crimson-fronted Parakeet.

Since everyone loves parrots, I thought I’d post some pictures of one of New Zealand’s many interesting species. One of the small parrots in the Cyanoramphus radiation, the species was recently split from insular forms on New Caledonia, Norfolk Island and Antipodes Island. Used with permission.
