Lots of squirrels, chipmunks, deer, rabbits. I think I heard an owl once last winter. the last part is raptor behavior but I can't imagine what kind of bird would be small enough to choose this space when there's 300 yds of chain link fence right there, and I've yet to see a dead squirrel, rabbit or chipmunk.

Normally I feed vultures, as well as hawks and owls, defrosted mice and rats. He then ate a screech owl, a robin, two squirrels, a mourning dove, three chipmunks, and a rabbit. Did I have an answer for him. Sometimes a defrosted chick. He ate my last quail.

Dirt hawking is a form of falconry that involves hunting rabbits and other small game with Harris Hawks (other hawk species also qualify). These desert inhabitants are waking up, whilst others, like a pair of diminutive Elf Owls, are settling down after a night of reveling. We set off and within minutes, we flush a large jackrabbit.

Many are familiar with dissecting owl pellets, but several birds will caste a pellet including hawks, eagles, gulls, herons and heck, I once witnessed a Scissor-tailed Flycatcher hack up a small one. Above is a pellet from one of a pair of Great Horned Owls that nested a few blocks from my apartment.

You typically do not find a bird this naked or featherless outside of the nest unless there has been a storm or the nest has been attacked by predator like a raccoon, chipmunk, squirrel or corvids. Owls are a little different. They don’t build nests and some like Great Horned Owls take over old hawk or squirrel nests.
