Avian influenza H5N2 in the Mississippi and Pacific Flyways

This is the first finding in the Mississippi flyway. It is the same strain of avian influenza that has been confirmed in backyard and wild birds in Washington, Oregon and Idaho as part of the ongoing incident in the Pacific flyway. People should avoid contact with sick/dead poultry or wildlife.

A few states still have no checklists at all: Nebraska , Minnesota , Iowa , Kentucky , West Virginia , Mississippi , and Alabama.

My profile page identifies the states that I have not eBirded, including Nebraska, North Dakota, Michigan, Mississippi, and Vermont. Since virtually all of my birding to the United States, that’s the map I look at most.
