Just before Thanksgiving, 2010, a driver spotted a Red-tailed hawk sitting on a dead rabbit in the middle of the road. She wasn’t about to leave her rabbit, and the driver figured something was wrong, so he picked her up. She was tired, thin, and had several medical issues. And to prove it, there’s The Queen.

Explanations are simple: only a mother rabbit or a highly trained rehabilitator has a chance of raising and releasing a healthy wild bunny. And like humans, if a wild animal is injured he needs to be treated by a licensed medical person, not a well-intentioned accountant, plumber, or six year old child.

There was a poster in the lunch room with four cute animals (a dog, cat, rabbit and something else.) This adorable poster that draws you in to the sweet faces of these animals basically proclaims that it is a good thing to use their bodies for medical research, which almost always leads to pain and death. It was a jarring moment.

The main challenge involves frog legs, rabbits, live lobsters (still moving) and other animals. Add cooking schools to the list of animal exploitation promoters, along with medical schools. Today, I've seen an elimination challenge involving snails and foie gras. What the eff? I am so unimpressed by this pathetic bunch.

Currently, A Chance for Bliss sanctuary is home to 96 residents including 25 horses, 22 dogs, 8 goats, 7 pot belly pigs , 4 sheep, 2 steers, 5 ducks, 5 geese, 5 cockatiels, 4 rabbits, 3 chickens, 3 cats, 1 turkey, a one-winged pigeon, Hines, and a turtle, Bart. Many of the dogs also have special medication needs.
