Some jerk (I’d use a stronger word, but this is a family-friendly website) in Wisconsin is shooting raptors. The USFWS (along with another federal agency) is facing a lawsuit that blames solar-power plants for killing endangered Yuma Clapper Rails and other birds. Birding in the Bronx? Yep, at the Dred Scott Bird Sanctuary.

You don’t feed, encourage and celebrate a large, lovely, charismatic species for 17 years, attracting thousands of devotees who travel each year just to admire it, and then turn around and kill it in front of them.

According to US Fish and Wildlife domestic rural cats kill roughly 39 million birds annually. When asked about the winter, Lorraine said that she will probably only let them out when she’s home, she suspects they will not want to play in the Wisconsin snow and cold nearly as much as they do in spring, summer and fall.
