Some animals are injured and killed by wildfires. Since their habitat has been destroyed, wildlife become displaced and must spend more time searching for food, water and shelter. A fire might kill weak birds or, depending on the time of year, claim nestlings. So what do these facts mean for our wildlife?

Every other year or so, we experience the lightest of frosts, nothing killing, and our warmest temperatures (in the 80s and 90s) occur in late spring. It doesn’t seem to offer food or shelter for birds; but, being the tallest tree on the block, is an important stopover for lots of species. Mostly, we don’t let them.

Lacking the benefit of heated shelters, birds must heed that warning or perish. Each of the six species in Costa Rica sports beautiful plumage with green and blue hues highlighted with rufous tones, and several also have long, racket-tipped tails. It was tough to pick out just one tanager species, many are downright stunning.

Basically, this species is so dimwitted, it doesn’t know how to survive. Because, Pink Pigeons are not capable of doing the tasks required to create and bring up children of the species. Don’t these birds care about propagating their species? Women gathered their long skirts and hurried for the shelter of stores.

Filling the niche of the woodpecker here they use their small and long bills to explore and hammer through rotting wood and bark for insects. And of course you’ll be keen to keep an eye open for Mantell’s Moa , one of ten species you should see on your tour. Like many of its relatives, this species was also flightless.
