Adult zebra finches change their vocalizations when singing to juveniles. Another group simply heard adult songs played through a speaker.

The Black-faced Cuckoo-shrike was observed every day, but the less common to the area White-bellied Cuckoo-shrike did drop by to investigate on a few occasions over our visits. The most common finches were the Zebra Finch followed by the Double-barred Finch and then the Long-tailed Finch. Pied Butcherbird looking for food.

I remember, several times while motionlessly surveying birds, I found myself being investigated by Striped Field Mice , who would dare to come to sniff me. A pair of screeching Blacksmith Lapwings was flying around as six Burchell’s Zebras were quenching their thirst, suspiciously observing surroundings every now and then.

There were small groups of Double-barred Finches, Zebra Finch and also Crimson Finches. A Grey Shrike-thrush was vocal and investigating the area that we chose to sit for our lunch. As we wandered along the trail we discovered a Great Bowerbird had been busy since the river level had dropped and placed a bower against the trail.

We were soon aware of s small group of Zebra Finch in the tree and although we have seen them drink from the sea in the past we thought some fresh water would be much appreciated! After encountering literally thousands of Budgerigars flocking to water only a few days before the least we could do was give the Zebra Finch some fresh water.
