The article discusses how scientists are infecting monkeys with a surrogate HIV virus that does not even lead to AIDS, begging the question of why infect them in first place if there's no real simulation of what happens in humans? Here's my response on medical research in general. This story on HIV research is one example.

Some scientists say it could end in a generation if we pursue the creation of "virtual humans" and living cell banks as research replacements. Tags: animal experimentation animal research medical research science. I just don't understand why.

I don't support animal research and I have no sympathy for animal researchers. I don't believe they are working for human welfare. I don't believe they want an honest dialogue about what they are doing to animals. I don't believe they are "brave" for "standing up" to animal rights activists.

Animal research facilities will be required to disclosee more information online about their experiments under a court settlement signed Wednesday by the Humane Society of the United States and the Agriculture Department. I don't like to celebrate until I'm sure of something. From the LA Times.
