Winter Birding in Maastricht

While I have visited a few birding sites around the Netherlands during the course of my Bachelor studies, I did not go birding a lot around the city where I lived, Maastricht. Terrestrial species did not show themselves in the drizzle, but a group of Eurasian Siskins provided a nice distraction.

On my first full day I explored the northern part of the Island and was particularly happy to find a group of Bearded Reedlings – another lifer (perhaps mildly embarrassing for someone who’s been birding for as long as long as I have). I also saw a few Snow Buntings on the beach near the lighthouse.
