The arrival of 48 monkeys on a flight from China this weekend has brought Air Canada under fire for shipping primates destined for research laboratories, but the airline says it is obliged by federal law to accept monkeys as cargo. Air Canada is one of a small number of airlines that continues to transport these primates, Kite said.

Animal advocacy groups have been lobbying for this for a while. The announcement below comes verbatim from the Pacific Free Press.they still need approval from the Canadian Transportation Agency though. We urge the Canadian Transportation Agency to immediately approve Air Canada's new, compassionate policy.". Excellent news!

Arriving in Singapore we soon collected our bags and got ourselves a NETS card for travel on public transport and to also use in supermarkets. The train system is fast and efficient and was our primary mode of transport. There were a couple of people with large cameras and then several school groups.

Spider monkeys swung through the highest branches, occasionally letting themselves fall to only a few boughs below, to peer curiously at these poorly adapted bipeds. As these odd cotingas called to each other, a small group of Spix’s Guan rummaged through the high branches of the canopy, running with ease on swaying limbs.

We managed to see both species of monkey, though – so we were ultimately well satiated. Crisscrossed by 24″ pipelines transporting oil from numerous offshore platforms, oil companies exercised the strongest presence here. After a brief period of no activity on the shore, a small group of Willets in fresh plumage cruised in.

I was fortunate to spend time scanning open fields, wetlands, and the inlet separating Hong Kong from China with this large group of friendly and avid avian observers. And even though transportation is so easy and inexpensive, prepare to walk a lot. An early group of about 15 from the hide at Mai Po. So don’t be afraid!

In fact, we saw two species of monkey, our only sloths, lots of coatis, and my rarest ever mammal sighting—a Jaguarundi —right on site. TRANSPORTATION.
