According to the Washington Post , PETA was one of many groups the Maryland State Police considered a security threat. A "very casually dressed" undercover trooper attended a speech by PETA's president that month and waited afterward to see whether anyone talked about chickens.

Birding from New York to North Carolina

To get there we would need to get out of New York, through New Jersey into Delaware, and then on through Maryland and Virginia until finally reaching our destination. As we headed south I started entering the occasional eBird checklist as we worked our way out of Delaware and through Maryland.
