Nenes are attractive geese, though they were named for their soft calls rather than their looks. Unlike other geese, Nenes prefer walking to swimming. Like other geese than evolved in Hawaii but went extinct, the Nene is an herbivore. Still, these geese face significant population threats.

Reading Deb's post about the goslings at Poplar and getting Jenny 's request to sign a petition to save the Canada geese of Ballwin, Missouri from mass extermination reminded me how much I miss the wildlife at the neighborhood we lived in from 2002-early 2005. Now I have the drama of the feral cats and of course the greyhounds.

Meanwhile, I would love to be able to have some kind of law against human beings producing/reproducing more than one person per person. How contradictory is that?

The goose has also proven highly adaptable: it is at home in many human-altered environments ( e.g. , golf courses and parks) and is an opportunistic feeder, consuming a variety of native and non-native vegetation.

The causes were the usual reasons for island extinction—deforestation by both humans and invasive plants that crowded out native plants, hunting, and invasive rats, mongoose, monkeys, and, of course, feral cats. Is it any wonder that Pink Pigeons were on the brink of extinction when humans intervened? I know, that’s harsh.
