Out Birding to Help an Endemic Sparrow in Costa Rica

It doesn’t require forest but the coffee farms and scrubby green space it does need are under constant pressure of being destroyed and replaced with urban housing. Carry out workshops and train more people locally on how to do telemetry properly. This could help provide years of valuable data. Check out the video!

Humane Society's National Conference Announced

It looks like they have some great workshops with people like Gene Bauer from Farm Sanctuary and Nicole Pollata from the Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF.). I recently received this email announcement. The conference is to be held from July 23-26 in Washington, DC. Someday, I hope to attend one of these conferences.

But all this changed in the early 1940s with the establishment of vegetable muck farms on the lake’s north shore. The healthy marshes that filtered the lake’s incoming water were drained to make room for the muck farms. American Bitterns are common around the lake fringes in winter.

In December, 1990, a single pair of ducks and some young birds began to feed at the farm of Mr. Willie Ebanks, at Hutland, Northside, in Grand Cayman. Soon the ducks were joined by others and by 1992, 16 pairs were regularly feeding at his farm. So he began to put out extra feed for the birds.
