Saturday was out, as family plans had been made, but I had already been cleared by Daisy to bird most of the day on Sunday. Next I had to find some co-conspirators to ride with all the way up to Point Peninsula, a twelve-hour round-trip from New York City. Of course, I had to go and see the bird!

After sixteen days touring the interior west and west coast of the United States with my family I am back in New York City. From Boise we headed still further west, driving through all of eastern Oregon, racing to get to Shady Cove where my in-laws were meeting us.

I found the two parks to be not at all similar. Discovery Park is not in the middle of Seattle but way out to the north in the Magnolia neighborhood.

Redgannet, you’ll have to come visit New York City sometime soon. Luckily I wasn’t affected too severely by the current pandemic: I lost neither life nor family members to Covid, only my job which was replaced the same day I lost it. Clare (and Grant!) It’s been quite the year, hasn’t it? Short fall, soft landing.

2015 was challenging, at best, on a personal level but it was a fantastic year for birds in New York City. My Best Bird of the Year isn’t that spectacular … just my lifer Violet-chinned Hummingbird at my husband’s family’s house in CO. Carrie chose a wood-warbler, a wood-warbler that was a lifer.
