The general public is out and about, birds and animals are raising their young, and human/wildlife interaction is at its peak. Violation of the law would be punishable by substantial fines, plus the cat owners would be required to perform community service at a local wildlife rehabilitation facility. Summer is high season.

This is the home of the Rusty-naped Pitta , admittedly one of the less glamorous of the family, particularly the subspecies found in Yunnan, but still a nice sight and still a pitta. Fish & Wildlife Service has a web page for this species – but it contains absolutely no information. ” ( source ).

This is brought about by a visit to Karori Wildlife Sanctuary/Zealandia, where I was able to catch up with the ducklings that I first saw back in the spring. Dad with the family a few months ago. Just a quick post today to appreciate one of New Zealand’s most attractive birds, the Paradise Shelduck. The female.

But no one who has ever cared for another creature – be it bird, animal, or human – can comprehend, much less cope with, this kind of brutal, pointless killing. Who suffers for these crimes?

There are are presently thought to be five species of kiwi with a possible sixth extinct species, all of which have suffered varying degrees of range contraction since the arrival of humans.
