My mind was already trying to place it, coming up with Northern Parula (though I saw no real blue), Red-eyed Vireo (though it seemed too small), and Tennessee Warbler (though the lack of a good look at the face made that a tough call). Tennessee Warblers have a thin, dark eye-line and a small, thin, sharply-pointed bill.

Despite the cold, I had to take a run at our last migrants this weekend and was rewarded with a lovely morning of lakeshore birding that included an FOY Tennessee Warbler … don’t know how that one got past me all month! Enjoying these locations over time allows us to experience our beloved birding sites in all their multifaceted glory, even when those facets aren’t exactly glorious. He did, however, manage to see a migratory Tennessee Warbler at Kissena Park on Saturday morning and he decided that was his Best Bird of the Weekend. How about you?

The golden bird was on a buggy island in a wetland, a spot that also harbored many other wintering warblers including several Tennessees and a busy Worm-eating. As with previous counts in Cano Negro , many thanks goes to Tatiana and Renato of Cano Negro Experience for doing a fantastic job of organizing and coordinating the count.

According to PCRM, the schools are Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, and the University of Tennessee College of Medicine, Chattanooga campus. Surgical simulators and supervised operating room experience work just fine.

You see, for various reasons, I’ve been unable to put myself in the proper place to experience the kaleidoscopic madness of spring migration. In no time at all, I added Blackpoll , Tennessee , Yellow , and Blackburnian (!) But what if the mountain had come to Mohammed? I’ve just experienced a phenomenon nearly as fantastic.
