PETA and the Alliance for Animals are asking for charges to be filed against the University of Wisconsin at Madison. The university stopped conducting the experiments last fall when it learned that it may have been violating state law, said Eric Sandgren, who oversees animal research at UW-Madison.

Animal Person points out this comment made by Daniel Engber, the author. Bring on the PETA hotties! Actually, I didn't quit neuroscience as a result of the experiences described, but I did quit working with animals. By the end of my time as researcher, I was performing behavioral experiments on humans.
