Growing up in central Oregon, allowed me to experience such a diverse amount of habitat, and the wildlife that resides there. The combination of over hunting, and the native animals susceptibility to diseases carried by domestic livestock that were allowed to graze there, completely eliminated these Bighorns by 1915.

This was the local name meaning “ugly” used for these primates by the people of the Gonder area in northern Ethiopia when the German naturalist Rüppell “discovered” this species for science in the 1830’s. CBC Shenanigans

The following year, 2014, I elected to join a different group birding the lowland seasonal forest at the opposite end of the CBC radius from where I had that wonderful experience the year before. The sandy forest yielded half-decent looks at several uncommon forest species such as this White-shouldered Tanager. Common Ground Dove.
