for example - I laid an old blanket infront of her cage but she started to tear it apart and pee and poo on it. My problem is that she doesn’t want to go out of her cage, i always keep the top off or the hatch open, i only close it when i go to sleep. I’ve tried everything i could find on the internet.

The irony is most apparent when a bird so named is a legitimate rarity – I get excited whenever I see a Common Ground Dove , for example. I had just turned my lights on and it was a Common Pauraque that hopped from the road back into the leaf litter. They are decidedly uncommon in T&T but surely ubiquitous somewhere else.

The scimitar gave the name to a group of birds, the 17 species of scimitar babblers (claims that these birds were named after the Scottish naturalist Edgar Scimitar, 1755-1806, are plainly wrong).

Unintentional fishing litter can also hurt the birds. To give you one example, they have been documented following anglers. To successfully hunt and breed they need clean and clear lakes, and so are sensitive to pollution that affects both them and/or their fishy prey. Still, loons are intelligent and – so far – resilient.

For example, around here, we have to watch our step for vipers wonderfully camouflaged in the leaf litter. Living in warm Costa Rica, I no longer need to worry about venturing into the “frio extremo” to see a Pine Grosbeak or some errant gull.
