On the first trip in 2012 we used public transport to get there and the train conveniently gets you to Macarthur Square shopping centre and you can then get a bus that drops you right at the entrance to the park. We also had Eastern Whipbirds hopping along the edge of the road tossing the leaf litter about in search of food.

The day before, the day I arrived, was a transport day, and that meant the pack hadn’t been seen in the afternoon. A good example is the other Mkuze pack, a offshoot of the main pack that split off when the Mhuze pack got too big. Falakhe is still alive, as is the dominant male in his litter. Resilience.

Last Sunday Grant was able to leave work in the afternoon and I had researched options of places we could get to within one hour of the city of Melbourne using public transport that would offer us some birding opportunities. Although the tall trees can be challenging they can also be very rewarding.
