Drakensberg (or Orange-breasted) Rockjumper is a Drakensberg Mountain species whose range is shared with the tiny landlocked kingdom of Lesotho. Males of this species are more brightly colored in their non-breeding winter plumage. the Rockjumpers.

A few dead birds were collected by authorities and sent to a laboratory for investigation. and species breeding in cavities are less affected.

Here in central Europe, dippers – more precisely the White-throated or European Dipper – are rather common breeding birds in many areas. Therefore, it is not too far-fetched to call our dippers a commensal species not entirely unlike House Sparrows or Starlings. Crazy, I know. And you know what? Luckily they aren’t.

I am exhilarated – I have had only a handful of chances to observe this species! Such a fascinating species. How old are they as a species? Further down the road, a flock of large swifts… about 60 Alpine Swifts , circling relatively low and giving a great performance – my biggest flock of this species ever!
