I am reminded of the ducks’ perilous and arduous existence on each family outing to Heidelberg Zoo. This is especially true for my toddler son, who will rush there past the elephant enclosure and without giving the tigers as much as a casual glance. He doesn’t go there for the ducks, but for the fish.

They are not necessarily the biggest African animals, but represented those that were considered a real hunter’s worthy prey or “game” – the African Elephant, Cape Buffalo, Black Rhinoceros, Leopard and king of the jungle, the Lion (which of course doesn’t inhabit jungle but savanna!).

Mosethla Bush Camp guide awaits us by the open Land Rover and with a loaded rifle in front of the steering wheel, we continue into the bush (oddly, while observing lions and tigers in India, not a single rifle was in sight). A little further, there’s a family group of Savannah Elephants with two two-year olds.

Most of the India data comes from The 100 Best Birdwatching Sites in India India Some 6-8 hours north of New Delhi, Corbett National Park is India’s first and oldest tiger reserve. Other wildlife includes Asian Elephant , Tiger , Leopard. Other countries still have to reach the 300 birds threshold. Next time, see you in Africa.
