I found this little grouping of Guillemots, with parents, babies and even an egg. I gave up on visiting the cave, and just watched this bird washing, preening and then jumping right in, and catch this small flat fish. The show stopper was his Eagle-owl. Here is just a small portion of one wall, covered by Guillemots.

Fish & Wildlife Service expects sea levels to rise due to global warming, swamping beaches on which Snowy Plovers currently nest, it is good news that the number of beaches proposed for protection as Snowy Plover nesting habitat has doubled.

As I watched, it slowly moved into a patch of dried vegetation and I noticed that it was settling over a single egg. Two or three eggs may be laid and either bird may incubate. This bird spent the 2011-2012 winter at Colusa National Wildlife Refuge in northern California, migrated someplace exotic and distant in February, and returned to the same pond at the beginning of this month. Red Junglefowl by Mike Bergin Clare Kines chose an egg as his Best Bird of the Year. And, no, I am not kidding.
