About halfway between Marymount Road and Upper Thomson Road we had the pleasure of sitting and observing Blue-crowned Hanging Parrots. Blue-crowned Hanging Parrot. We were surprised that it had taken until this day to find Coconut Lorikeets. In fact it was not a bird at all, but a Common Gliding Lizard.

There were 12 Red-necked Avocet feeding in the ponds and along the fenceline there were Zebra Finch, Peaceful Doves and Diamond Doves nipping back and forth for water. The smallest pools of water were sustaining numerous finches including Crimson Finch, Long-tailed Finch, Double-barred Finch and Zebra Finch. Black-necked Stork.

A few of the highlights include ; Black Baza, Crested Serpent-eagle, Blue-rumped Parrot, Greater Coucal, Spotted Wood-owl , Dollarbird, Oriental Pied-hornbill, Mangrove Pitta, Golden-bellied Gerygone, Pied Triller, Ashy Minivet, Olive-winged Bulbul, Arctic Warbler. Spotted Wood-owl. Olive-backed Sunbird.

There are often a pair of White-bellied Sea-Eagles present and they were there. White-bellied Sea-Eagle nest with Budgerigars above There were numerous Whistling Kites sitting in nests and we were intrigued to see that Zebra Finch had built their own nests in the base of the nest.

There were small groups of Double-barred Finches, Zebra Finch and also Crimson Finches. Along the riverbank we observed Australasian Darters, White-bellied Sea-Eagles, Little Pied Cormorants and Straw-necked Ibis to name a few. We wonder how many people walk the trail and wonder what the bizarre construction is all about!
