Here, scores of Black-bellied Whistling Ducks landed in the waving reeds, only their heads and bright pink bills visible as we slowly moseyed past. Common Gallinules camouflaged with the denser vegetation, and we were now so close to the woods that we heard Red-bellied Woodpeckers and Common Yellowthroats.

The shallows are full of ducks in eclipse, a real puzzle that requires a bit of time and a sharp eye – something you usually reserve for warblers and such. Wigeons are only migrants and not a breeding species in Serbia and August is a bit too early for any longer distance duck movements. The autumn migration has clearly started.

Since many of these exceptions are common birds (Wood Duck, Red-tailed Hawk, Great-horned Owl), I assume Lund saw the additional space as opportunities to teach people how to absolutely positively identify these birds, adding more text and featuring images of the species in flight or in gender-specific, nonbreeding or juvenile plumage.

Taxi v SMRT – The SMRT is the excellent, clean, safe, reliable, cheap transport system of Singapore. The path along the right (east) bank of the river leads along a cycle path with Asian Koels , Yellow-vented Bulbuls , Laced Woodpeckers and Oriental Magpie Robins all likely. Yellow Bittern.

TRANSPORTATION. Black-bellied Whistling-Duck. Red-crowned Woodpecker. Lineated Woodpecker. Crimson-crested Woodpecker. In fact, we saw two species of monkey, our only sloths, lots of coatis, and my rarest ever mammal sighting—a Jaguarundi —right on site. All in all, the Radisson Summit delivered what we all wanted.

Below are a few suggestions of sites within the city that can easily be reached using public transport. It features lakes which can usually be relied upon for Neotropic Cormorant and White-faced Whistling Duck on the water with Kiskadees seemingly perched on every bank-side tree. If you happen to find yourself in Melbourne then there are also plenty of places to go birding in the city itself or not far by public transport. Herdsman Lake is easily accessible by public transport, but when we have visited by vehicle we have gone further afield to Yanchep National Park and the Perth Hills. Ducks of Herdsman Lake.
