I observed my first GS eagles in India some 8 years ago, then the first for Europe in Greece only last December , and finally I have them in my home country list. Simply, they are among the most beautiful ducks around. Usually only several birds overwinter in Serbia – the biggest count ever was less than 10. Their claim to fame?

While checking floating logs for ducks, I counted European pond turtles (strange things birders do?) This is the usual game viewing routine in reserves of Africa and India. In India, no one goes at mid-day because of the heat and the law. Tropical Easy but Active – few hours in the morning, rest and few hours in late afternoon.

Actually, when I started to bird, my second ever duck, after the Mallard, was a Ruddy Shelduck! Soon, I found three large ducks on the water, but as soon as I come closer, they took flight, like proper wild ducks. Our two newest contributors have shared from Mexico and China, bringing the countries birded this month (also including; Costa Rica, Greece, Serbia, USA, UK, India, UAE and New Zealand) to 10. Orange-billed Sparrow – Arremon aurantiirostris. Song Sparrow – Melospiza melodia. House Sparrow – Passer domesticus.
