My family visited San Diego every year as part of a Disneyland-SoCal Road trip to escape the rainy Christmases at home near Portland, Oregon.

Bay Bluff Park is for the Birds

Escambia Bay was fairly calm, and it was easy to pick out the dark silhouettes of Brown Pelicans floating on the water. A lone Great Blue Heron stalked prey in the shallows, eventually taking flight when a family (and their dog) made it to the sand.

Exploring East Bay and the Yellow River

Here and there, spits of pale sand became playgrounds for families and dogs, or hunting areas for Great Blue Herons. Brown Pelicans were the most numerous birds, flapping against the wind, diving for lunch, or floating along on the gentle waves. A view of East Bay. The lone shrimp we pulled up in the cast net.

And at the same time, Woolly-necked Storks have modified their behavior to survive even in urban gardens where they scrounge for dog food on back porches!
