Clapper and King rails may represent four or five species

Their taxonomic status long has been unclear due to their overall similarity and the fact that in eastern North America and Cuba, they hybridize. King Rails occur widely in eastern North America, in eastern and central Mexico, and in Cuba. So, Maley suggests recognizing four species, instead of the two currently recognized.

Birding Acapulco

Cuba (twice), South America (twice), Europe and Morocco (once) and Bali (once). I had never birded this way before, and can confirm that what I had heard is true: Birds are much more tolerant of human presence when those humans are on a boat! The 29 species I added to my January list say so as well.)
