How are her bones going to grow without cow's milk? I mention this because all too often people surrender their dogs--or even cats--once they have children. Sky gives her a wide berth when she walks around her, and yes, it's a bummer that Sky is a little afraid of dogs. I'm constantly asked about the details of Baby Sky's life.

When I agreed to read and review Jeffrey Moussaieff Masson's THE DOG WHO COULDN'T STOP LOVING (Harper 2010), the regal Charles Hobson Booger, III was still with us. He was adopted by the Masson family and was apparently the most loving dog all who met him had ever had the pleasure of being licked by. And the crying would never stop.

I recall one day when his sister-in-law was speaking with him about what she was feeding her children, and it wasn't a vegan-centered conversation. I think it was about hot dogs. TD, of course, wasn't too keen on hot dogs for nutritional reasons at the very least. Or in the case of cheese made from the milk of cows.

And then I read THE CHINA STUDY and was shocked to learn how unhealthy the Standard American Diet is--even cow's milk, which I thought I should be having three servings of per day! Now, I don't want to do anything extreme, like go vegan. And I don't think vegans believe in God, and I don't trust anyone who doesn't believe in God.

The book, which I have not read, that saved Derrick Jensen 's life is called The Vegetarian Myth: Food, Justice, and Sustainability by Lierre Keith, who was a vegan for 20 years, suffered serious medical problems, and started feeling better when she recommenced eating animals. Throughout the book, Keith mocks vegetarians and vegans.

Naturally, upon reading such words, my stomach turned and I immediately thought of making plans to be away from the house that day so I wouldn't have to see any of the festivities or try to negotiate walking the dogs around them. Meanwhile, most eat them, wear them and "love" the Kentucky Derby, yet don't approve of dog racing.
