Many mutts you can get from the pound or animal shelter make terrific pets. I strongly encourage people to adopt pound and shelter animals. Purebred or mixed breed? It is not necessary to pick a purebred dog for your first pet.

The second responded as I would- with immediate concern and compassion. clothing and shelter. I asked two companies to help. The first- who are supposed to be sponsors of what I do, sent me a doctored form letter. Ben Lizdas at Eagle Optics provided immediate assurance that they would do something.

Burnout, Compassion Fatigue, Emotional Exhaustion these are all familiar topics to those of us who spend our time helping animals. One day about 10 years ago, I was in the process of transporting quite a few dogs to a rescue from a high kill shelter. They shared with me that they have the ability to sense our emotions and feelings.

It reminded me of an adoption poster at the animal shelter. It certainly doesn't fill me with confidence in these people's skills in compassion and humane care. It was a rather grim place. There was a poster in the lunch room with four cute animals (a dog, cat, rabbit and something else.) It was a jarring moment. Weird, weird, weird.
