Black-bellied Whistling-Ducks , Muscovy Ducks and Blue-winged Teals were around us, together with Green , Great and Little Blue Herons , Cattle and Great White Egrets , Black-crowned and Yellow-crowned Night-Herons , plus one locally rare Pinnated Bittern in the floating vegetation, as well as several dozen Neotropical Cormorants.

From 1993 to 2004, biologists released 289 captive-raised whooping cranes into central Florida. One of the remaining birds is known to frequent Joe Overstreet Road, a dirt road that runs a few miles through sod farms and cattle pastures between Canoe Creek Road and Lake Kissimmee in Keenansville,about an hour south of Orlando.

Bea directed me to an interview with Dr. Elizabeth Parker , the "chair man " (my emphasis) of the Animal Agriculture Alliance at CattleNetwork, which apparently is "The Source for Cattle News." Parker uses the term "anti-modern farming activists," which is new to me. I wish their mission was to end animal agriculture.
