Actually, I am not waiting for them, but for the Eastern Imperial Eagle to come here to hunt Susliks – an eagle from one of the last two remaining nests in Serbia. Alas, there is no eagle to be seen either. Not an eagle in sight. Blackcap , European Stonechat … no eagles.

This park protects the largest remaining tract of dry deciduous forest in the west of India, offering visitors 37 species of reptiles, 38 species of mammals and, not to be forgotten – almost 300 bird species. The commonest large mammals of the park are smallish, spotted forest deer – Chitals, and we often encounter small herds.

Plus, any place you can see both 15 different raptors and 15 different mammals in the same day sounds worth a visit, doesn’t it? Murchison Falls NP truly excels as a place to see the kind of wild mammals Africa is legendary for. Beaudouin’s Snake-Eagle … wow!! Denham’s Bustard is a beauty. Rock Pratincoles.

In particular, there is one hide that is built over a watering hole, allowing great views of both birds and mammals (though for a dedicated bird watcher like me, those are more of an obstacle than a bonus). Cattle Egrets using public transport. Not too many raptors, but at least an African Fish Eagle. Alone time. What a life.

mi at its widest point, consisting of seasonally inundated riparian forests, industrial poplar plantations, river arms and ponds with 60 mammal ( Eurasian Otter , Roe Deer , Wildcat , Golden Jackal , etc.) I made this tour myself several days ago (late July), and will report mostly on the species I actually found, as well as some mammals.
