In all European Union countries to the north and east of Serbia (except Romania), Turtle Doves are strictly protected. Money and effort are being invested in that protection.

Of these three regions, the Cerrado has the least exposure on the international stage, which is a shame since the Cerrado is almost the size of Western Europe and in total holds about 5% of all life on Earth. The Common Pochard is not just a scarce breeding bird, but the second most numerous wintering duck in Serbia and it will be a hard battle to protect it against the strong hunting lobby.
