I, however, am still a California boy, in spite of not living in that state for four decades now, and I still keep track of the weather there. There were plenty of other birds in the area, with 72 species around the reservoir for the day.

Mountain Plover, California. 2018 was a good year for Mountain Plover in California, with a congregation (that is what you call a flock of plovers, says the Internets) seen regularly in Antelope Valley from early November on.
