As a breed, pit bulls have a bad rap. Like every dog they are vulnerable to homelessness and mistreatment. However, they are more vulnerable to being forced into fighting than other breeds. Aside from the breed’s abuses, one finds that adopting out this breed is highly difficult.

The old runway in particular is excellent shorebird habitat, and the open wet woodlands growing up from, for lack of a better word, fields, elsewhere on the property shelter nesting Warbling Vireos , Orchard and Baltimore Orioles , Yellow Warblers , Common Yellowthroats , Tree Swallows , Song Sparrows , and other species.

If you’re planning on adding a dog to your family, it’s possible you’ll find your new family member at the local animal shelter or humane society. These dogs are homeless through no fault of their own, and by rescuing one of them, you may just save their life. Similarly, choose a breed that doesn’t need much brushing and grooming.

A: Many people who want to get a pet just are not aware of how many pets are available at shelters.

There are conservation efforts to save these species by individual aquarists, who are keeping and breeding them in hopes that they can someday be reintroduced into the lake. For me, part if this goes to the question of whether or not we should breed or otherwise try to restore endangered species, in general.
