We did find a family of Dollarbirds, though and it was the first time I had photographed four together! Royal Spoonbill and Australian Pelicans. There were several Masked Lapwings and Black-winged Stilt that appeared to be breeding and also Black-fronted Dotterel. Magpie Geese. Four Dollarbirds. Frill-necked Lizard.

The lake was filled with families of Dusky Moorhens and Purple Swamphens (or Pukeko as we call them in New Zealand), all tending small groups of black chicks. Magpie-larks are neither magpies nor larks but are the largest of the monarch-flycatchers, and the most terrestrial of the family.

Brown Pelicans , and the northernmost Brown Booby breeding colony on this side of the Pacific. Ringer Anhingas and darters , cormorants and shags , frigatebirds , gannets and boobies , pelicans , and the tropicbirds all share a characteristic found in no other living bird: Their feet are totipalmate.

May – Migration’s Peak and Breeding Begins. We had a wonderful family vacation in Germany and the Czech Republic during which I managed to do a bit of birding. Whether it was hawks , terns , seabirds , wood-warblers , shorebirds , geese , falcons , finches , or songbirds and woodpeckers I was there with my camera.
