All around Porto Lagos (220 km / 140 mi east of Thessaloniki) lies the largest national park of Greece, Nestos Delta and the Vistonida-Ismarida lakes and lagoons complex, founded in 2008. The area is one of the most important in Greece for birds, comprising more than 270 species. Now, I am done. Previous stage: Birding Lake Kerkini

I was born and bred by the banks of the Lake Kerkini National Park in the north of Greece, one hour from the country’s second largest city Thessaloniki. In the next year I visited the British Birdfair for the first time, which turned out to be the experience that changed my life. Best regards from Kerkini lake!

I was driving along the legendary eastern levee of the Kerkini Lake in northern Greece ( Google Map ) and, listening to the first Golden Oriole flute, was slowly getting closer to a wooded Mt. So, beside a lot of birds and the sunny sky, I want the coldest thing to experience year-round to be my beer. It makes me think what is the meaning of life, the universe and everything? They can be challenging to identify, especially if you haven’t seen one before, though with experience they are not really so difficult. In Europe, Lesser Kestrels are birds of the Mediterranean zone, nesting mainly in Spain and Portugal, southern France, Sardinia, the Balkans and parts of Greece.
