I’m sure most of you know that the Peregrine Falcon became an endangered species because of the use of organochlorine pesticides, especially DDT, during the 1950′s, 60′s, and 70′s. Then, in one of my freshmen science classes, there was a discussion about extinct species, which then lead to the topic of threatened, or endangered species, and what we could do to help out. Now that I am here in Mexico, I finally found them! There is little doubt about the serious nature of the threat to this bird.

I say almost because that particular distinction actually falls to another New Zealand bird, the Black Robin, of which there were once just four (including just one breeding female). And he sometimes travels around New Zealand giving people the chance to encounter one of their most endangered species in a semi-natural habitat.
