Young birds, at least in captivity, become mature after 5 years and start breeding after 6 or 7 years.

The Blackbird that is a Meadowlark – Red-breasted Blackbird in Trinidad

It was on the island of Trinidad, at the Aripo Agricultural Research Station, where all of these photographs were taken. Trinidad is the northern limit of the range of the Red-breasted Blackbird , though it is unclear if the occasional birds that show up in Tobago are wanderers from Trinidad or northern South America or are breeding there.

Tommy Thompson Park Bird Research Station in Toronto had an extremely rare and beautiful Townsend’s Warbler x Black-throated Gray Warbler which was banded in April. 2012 was one of my best years for birding in Costa Rica.
