The Humane Society has another great investigation into the shady practices of a corporate giant. It has about 140 stores nationwide that sell puppies that supposedly come from "good" breeders (are any breeders good? Not so, says the Humane Society. Some of the breeders were found with sick or dead dogs in their cages.

When I read the description of the Mulga Parrot on a pet website, I first thought it was an advertisement for Thai mail-order brides: “The exotic appearance of the Mulga Parrot might be what attracts you first, but it’s their personality that will win you over” ( source ).

At least they seem to understand that raising chicks is hard and annoying work and have found at least a partial solution for this problem: “co-operative breeder, up to four individuals attending chicks at one nest, at least three seen to feed chicks” (HBW). I once saw this White-throated Laughingthrush at Nanhui, Shanghai.

And people wonder why I'm so disappointed by humans. A farm-animal breeder who ran what a prosecutor called "the zoo from hell" was convicted Tuesday of animal cruelty. A jury in West Haverstraw deliberated less than two hours before convicting Robert Everle of all 13 charges of torturing, injuring and starving animals.

However, any breed of dog that has been abused, neglected, or homeless may be aggressive to humans or other dogs. If you find that dog of any breed is aggressive to humans, it is best to notify the relevant authorities. When people inquire, ask for detailed descriptions of unique characteristics of their lost pet.

Here are a few great tips for future and current pet owners. The Shift: Instead of buying your new friend from a pet store or breeder, adopt one from a shelter. Shift-It Tip: If you’re set on a purebred dog or cat, buy one from a rescue association instead of getting a pedigree from a breeder. Pets are the same way.
