Given that according to the HBW, the species prefers dense primary and secondary montane forests, the note that the bird also forages among kitchen waste (in the same HBW entry) seems somewhat incongruous. Fish & Wildlife Service has a web page for this species – but it contains absolutely no information.

Short-eared Owl at Plum Beach, Brooklyn

Because of the range and population BirdLife International lists Asio flammeus as a Species of Least Concern. In New York State , however, the Short-eared Owl is considered an endangered species and it has likely been extirpated as a breeder in several of its former strongholds. Oh, and Doug also managed to digi-bin some video.

While the Bornean Forktail looks quite similar to the White-crowned Forktail, it apparently is a separate species, making it another Borneo endemic. Of course, only chemists have a rough idea what that might mean.

McWilliam realizes he’s dealing someone special, a career falcon egg-thief.

The third in the Nanhui collection of gloriously colored flycatchers is the Blue-and-white Flycatcher. In Alaska, they were found to mimic 30 different species ( source ). Apparently , the two main factors influencing double brooding are the individual quality of the breeder and the timing of the first clutch.
