The dog breeding legislation, intended to outlaw “puppy-farming”, was prepared by Green Party leader and Minister for the Environment John Gormley. The draft Bill proposes a new regime of annual inspections and fees for dog breeders. They also want an exemption for hunt kennels which do not breed dogs for commercial purposes.

I am no fan of breeders, I'll admit it. I think there are many disreputable breeders, I think they are increasing a bloated supply of pets, and I think there are many purebreds already available from shelters. I also know there are people who want to buy from a breeder and no one else. Tags: breeders.

It has about 140 stores nationwide that sell puppies that supposedly come from "good" breeders (are any breeders good? Some of the breeders were found with sick or dead dogs in their cages. But I didn't campaign for a presidential greyhound for exactly the same reason Obama's decision was disappointing: it glorifies pure breed dogs. Tags: Activism Current Affairs Ethics. They can say that the puppy was needing to be re-homed, therefore it's like adopting from a rescue group.

Here's a great question I received via direct message on Twitter ( www.twitter.com/mary_martin ): "Do you think that even if Obama had adopted a shelter dog-it still may have caused a run on breeders? Perhaps if there were a heartfelt message followed by action that supported it, no matter what breed were rescued, adoptions would increase.

Each book is breed specific, sharing stories of those who love the breed and have adopted dogs through rescue. Not only that, but a portion of the book profits are donate to a breed specific rescue group. The company has several other breeds, but is still looking for rescue stories to include in upcoming book releases.
