We birders don’t always like to ruminate on missed birds, for some of us the wounds are worn too close to the surface. This one was not an individual you’d mistake for a pure bird by any means, as it mostly resembled the Black-chinned side of the family in size and structure. Another half hummingbird.

Either that or having family friends in Germany. After the castle we wound our way through the Black Forest where we were able to watch a pair of Eurasian Three-toed Woodpeckers foraged a few feet in front of us. A great trip, made even better from the tips Jochen, and this blog, gave me. Quality birds, especially in the area.
